Reciprocal Trigonometric Functions (Cosec, Sec, Cot)

What are the reciprocal trigonometric functions?

In this post, we define the reciprocal trigonometric functions, y = cosec(x), y = sec(x) and y = cot(x) , as a part of the Prelim Maths Advanced course under the topic Trigonometric Functions and sub-part Trigonometric Functions. The reciprocal trigonometric functions are:

  • cosec(A) = \frac{1}{sin(A)}, sin(A) \neq 0
  • sec(A) = \frac{1}{cos(A)}, cos(A) \neq 0
  • cot(A) = \frac{cos(A)}{sin(A)}, sin(A) \neq 0

The following video covers all basic trigonometric ratios and their respective reciprocals, to understand where they come from.
