Absolute Value

What is absolute value?

In this post, we define the absolute value |x| of a real number x as the distance of the number from the origin on a number line without regard to its sign, as a part of the Prelim Mathematics Advanced course under the topic Working with Functions and sub-part Further Functions and Relations. An absolute value of a number is the magnitude of the number, or how far it is from zero, for example, the absolute value of 6 and -6 is 6 .
