Numerical Smoothing and the Moving Mean

Numerical Smoothing and the Moving Mean is a part of the VCE Further Maths topic Data Analysis. It is part of the subtopic Investigating and Modelling Time Series Data. Numerical smoothing removes outliers from a time series by finding the average of points. This average is found by calculating the moving mean. Then a ‘smooth’ curve or line is applied to the data.

So How Do I Find the Moving Mean?

Watch this next video to learn how to use the moving mean for numerical smoothing.
