What Are Ways We Can Represent Categorical Data Distributions?
Throughout this topic, you will be introduced to a multitude of categorical distribution types. We can choose how we represent this data in a number of ways. Examples ways of representing categorical data include frequency tables, bar charts including segmented barcharts, histograms, stem plots and dot plots. This post will go through the main ways of displaying data for VCE Further Maths.
Displaying and Describing Categorical Distributions
In this video, you will learn how to display and describe the different types of categorical distributions.
What are dot plots and stem-and-leaf plots?
A dot plot is a number line with each data point marked with a dot. A stem-and-leaf plot is used to represent numerical data in an ordinal formation. The videos below will show you how to construct a dot plot and how to solve a variety of questions relating to dot plots.
Part 1 – What are Dot Plots and Stem and Leaf Plots
Part 2 – Constructing a Stem and Leaf Plot
What are Grouped Frequency Tables?
Data with a large number of values are often grouped into smaller intervals called “class intervals”. The video below explains to you how to find the class interval when given a set of data.
