The Coefficient of Determination is a part of the VCE Further Maths topic Data Analysis. It is a part of the subtopic Investigating and Modelling Linear Associations.
We use the coefficient of determination to find the correlation between two variables. It tells us how changing one variable impacts a second variable. It is also known as the r-squared value, and is a measure of how well a regression line fits a set of data. This can be applied to the least squares regression line, to evaluate the accuracy of the line for the dataset.
In this post, we look at using the r-squared value to assess the strength of the association between two values in terms of explained variation.
