The Log Scale

The Log Scale is a part of the VCE Further Maths topic Data Analysis and subtopic Investigating Data Distributions. This post looks at the use of a log (base 10) scale to display data ranging over several orders of magnitude and their interpretation in powers of ten.

A log scale is used to display a wide range of data in a compact way. This is especially useful when the largest values are many hundreds larger than the smallest values.
