Response and Explanatory Variables

Response and Explanatory Variables is a part of the VCE Further Maths topic Data Analysis and subtopic Investigating Associations Between Two Variables.

A response variable can be thought of the variable which is the ‘result’ of the other variables. It is the effect or the outcome of an experiment. The explanatory variable is the same thing; these two terms are used interchangeably.

This next video provides the distinct definitions of these two terms, and applies them in context.
