Macroscopic Gas Exchange Structures in Animals
This post will go through gas exchange structures in different animals for Prelim Biology.
Different Gas Exchange Structures
While you do not need to know all the different gas exchange structures, you will be required to know that there exist different macroscopic gas exchange structures for different animals and that the structures are largely fit for their surroundings.
Note that this context of respiration is not the same as cellular respiration, when talking about gas exchange respiration it revolves around the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide from within the organism to outside the organism.
This video will go through the human respiratory system.
This video will go through respiration in insects.
This video will go through respiration in fish.
This video will go through respiration in amphibians.
This video will go through respiration in birds.
You may find it useful to think about why these respiratory systems would not be fitting for other situations for example fish on land, or lungs in insects.
