Biotic Vs Abiotic Factors
This post will introduce the topic of population dynamics by going through biotic vs abiotic factors for Prelim Biology.
Topic: Population Dynamics
- Investigate and determine relationships between biotic and abiotic factors in an ecosystem, including:
- The impact of abiotic factors
- The impact of biotic factors, including predation, competition and symbiotic relationships
Impact of Abiotic Factors
Recall, abiotic factors are non-living factors in an ecosystem. This video will go through the impact of abiotic factors in a little more depth.
Impact of Biotic Factors
Biotic factors are living components in an ecosystem. There are various symbiotic relationships (a relationship where at least one party benefits) between species such as mutualism (where both parties benefit), commensalism (where one party benefits and the other is not impacted) and parasitism (where one party benefits and the other is harmed). Other relationships such as predation and competition all contribute to the balance of an ecosystem.
This video will go through the impact of biotic factors in a little more detail.
