This post will go through determining past changes with technology for Prelim Biology.
Radiometric Dating
Radiometric dating is a technology used to determine the age of various materials including rocks and fossils using the predictability of radioactive decay for radioisotopes. Different radioisotopes decay at different rates which limits the extent for particular radioisotopes to measure different things (e.g. carbon-14 can only be used to date things less than 60000 years old, uranium-238 can be used to date things around 4.45 billion years old).
