Relative Motion of Objects in Two Dimensions

What are some examples of relative motion of objects in two dimensions?

In this post, we analyse the relative motion of objects in two dimensions in a variety of situations, as a part of the Prelim Physics course under the module Kinematics and sub-part Motion on a Plane. Some real-life examples of relative motion in two dimensions are:

  • A boat on a flowing river relative to the bank
  • Two moving cars
  • An aeroplane in a crosswind relative to the ground
