What are Electrolytic Cells?
This post will be an introduction to electrolytic cells for QCE Chemistry.
3.2.5 – Electrolytic Cells
- Understand that electrolytic cells use an external electrical potential difference
to provide the energy to allow a non-spontaneous redox reaction to occur,
and appreciate that these can be used in small-scale and industrial
situations, including metal plating and the purification of copper - Predict and explain the products of the electrolysis of a molten salt and
aqueous solutions of sodium chloride and copper sulfate. Explanations
should refer to Eø values, the nature of the electrolyte, and the concentration
of the electrolyte
Electrolytic vs Galvanic Cells
This video will go through the difference between electrolytic and galvanic cells.
This video is another explanation of electrolytic cells.
Electrolysis of Water
This video will go through the electrolysis of water.
Applications of Electrolytic Cells
This video will go through electroplating.
This video will go through purifying reactions.
This video goes through the electrolysis of molten compounds.
