Stereoisomers

What are Stereoisomers?

This post will introduce stereoisomers for QCE Chemistry.

4.1.1 – Structure of Organic Compounds

  • Identify stereoisomers as compounds with the same structural formula but
with different arrangement of atoms in space; describe and explain
geometrical (cis and trans) isomerism in non-cyclic alkenes.
  • Mandatory practical: Construct 3D models of organic molecules.

Stereoisomerism

Stereoisomers are the other type of isomers, as mentioned in the last post. Stereoisomers are essentially chemicals with the same chemical formula and structure but different orientations in space.

This video will go through the concept of chirality which is a determining factor in stereoisomerism.

This video will go through isomers and explore stereoisomerism.
