What makes Tahlee a Trailblazer?

Tahlee Cale has a variety of skills under her belt, undergoing rigorous processes to achieve the highest award given in Scouts: an Australian Scout Medallion (ASM). This medal is not something that can easily be obtained but takes years of up-skilling and training.

For this, Tahlee had to complete first aid, water safety, bike safety, planning camps, hiking, caring for the environment, volunteering, and much more! Alongside this, she was an environmental ambassador in her school, caring for the chickens and the garden throughout the school year and on holidays.

Being one of the few females in her troop, she had established herself as a role model for her younger peers. Tahlee educated the younger troops (the Joeys, and the Cubs) on bike safety and aided them during camps.

She had also planned a camp for her troop, managing their itinerary from food, transport, activities, and safety procedures. Her ASM also educated her on environmental awareness, hiking in a way that would ‘leave no trace’.

It is evident that Tahlee has a heart for the environment and for being a role model for her younger peers. It’s amazing to think that she’s also thriving in Year 12 as well! Tahlee has found that her planning, organising, and time management skills to get her ASM have been pivotal in setting her up for success in her ATAR. She has even earned early entry into university!

However, not everything is as easy as it sounds. Just like every Year 12 student, staying motivated during the marathon of the final year had proven difficult for Tahlee, especially during COVID. She had missed weeks from school and her work, but she trod on.

Despite the setback, her time management skills from her ASM equipped her well to teach herself the content she had missed. Of course, this is still an ongoing marathon and a struggle that Tahlee has had to push through — sometimes feeling as though the end is near, and yet, so far away.

Tahlee hopes to complete a degree in forensic science and progress into the police force. Her ASM has given her a footstool, especially for leadership and developing a determined and persevering mindset likened to those part of the police force.

“(My) ASM in my scouting career allowed me to make many great friends who I’ll never forget and educate my peers and give them a role model to look up (to).”

Through her tenacity, Tahlee’s achieved her Australian Scout Medallion, creating a positive impact on environmental awareness and on her peers, making her deserving as one of our Top 50 Trailblazers!
