What makes Jasmeet Kaur a Trailblazer?

Jasmeet Kaur began to build her own cake making business in Year 10, and since this time, has been able to grow her business to a substantial amount! Although she has not yet branched out professionally, Jasmeet Kaur’s business is off to a fantastic start, already having about 20 customers, producing about 30-35 orders over the past two years, which equates to 1 to 2 cake orders per month.

“This business has allowed me to not only work on something I am very passionate about but also get orders and fulfil the wants for other people and brighten up their life in a small way.”

Jasmeet Kaur’s small business has allowed her to work on a project that she is not only very passionate about, but has given her the opportunity to give back to the community and brighten peoples lives in a great way! The process of running her own business has also enhanced a variety of Jasmeet Kaur’s skills. She has learnt what it takes to run and promote a business – with some of the vital skills being time management, resources management and communication.

The process of planning, organising, gathering ingredients and materials and producing the cakes have given Jasmeet Kaur a great learning curve, helping her understand how to prioritise and run her small business alongside maintaining her school work. In addition to these amazing skills, Jasmeet Kaur has been exposed to the ins and outs of customer service, as she learnt how to best communicate with people in dealing with their orders and understanding their needs.

Alongside her studies and running her small cake business, Jasmeet Kaur also managed to complete 35 hours of work placement in the field of hospitality. She completed her work placement at Nadia’s Cafe, where she had the role of making coffee beverages, serving customers, clearing tables, setting up tables and taking orders which helped her understand the logistics behind running a large business, and helped her gain some useful customer service skills!

Like all passionate allrounders, managing Year 12 was a challenge for Jasmeet Kaur – especially during the uncertain times experienced by many due to COVID. Jasmeet Kaur found it challenging to complete extra study and revision for her exams and found COVID to be a setback to her learning as it made it harder to catch on things that she had missed out on, leaving her overwhelmed and stressed. However, she persevered through it all, and came out victorious on the other side!

In the future, Jasmeet Kaur hopes to pursue a career as a clinical psychologist, while opening up her own professional cake business.

Jasmeet Kaur has shown dedication and passion, allowing her to successfully complete Year 12, whilst managing her own small business! This is why she is one of our Top 50 Trailblazers!
