The Trailblazer Awards celebrates Year 11 and Year 12 students beyond their ATAR, recognising those who have overcome personal challenges and used their final year of school to positively impact their community.

What makes Bianca a Trailblazer?
Bianca is an exceptional individual who has made significant achievements both within her schooling career and beyond. Within her school, she has been recognised with prestigious awards such as the CQU Vice-President’s Award, the JCU Shield, and the title of McAuley House Person of the Year.
Beyond her academic accomplishments, Bianca has taken on a leadership role as the current 2023 Youth Member for Gladstone in the YMCA QLD Youth Parliament. The Queensland Youth Parliament consists of representatives from each of the 93 electorates in Queensland, and Bianca was one of the successful applicants among the 450 individuals who applied for the role this year. In this capacity, she serves as a voice for the young people in her electorate, providing advice and guidance to politicians and decision-makers across the state. Bianca’s placement in the Science, Tourism, Innovation & Sport, Digital Economy (STDE) portfolio reflects her passion for these fields and her dedication to making a positive impact.
The Queensland Youth Parliament not only bridges the gap between legislators and youth but also offers outstanding opportunities for personal development. Through this transformative experience, Bianca has honed her leadership skills, enhanced her public speaking ability, and forged lifelong friendships. She has had the unique opportunity to witness parliamentary operations firsthand, interact with members of the government and opposition, and engage in fiery debates about topical issues.
While pursuing her education in Year 11 and Year 12, Bianca faces the challenge of family commitments. Coming from a non-English speaking background, Bianca takes on the responsibility of translating and assisting her parents with important documents and financial planning. As the eldest child at home, she shoulders these responsibilities. Despite financial constraints, Bianca understands the value of prioritising family needs over personal desires and demonstrates resilience and maturity in handling such situations.
In addition to her academic and leadership pursuits, Bianca actively participates in various programs and initiatives that contribute to her personal and professional growth. She has served as a Middle Years Leader, UQ Science Ambassador, Student Representative Member (SRC), and Youth Member for Gladstone. These roles have allowed her to develop her public speaking skills and expand her knowledge in the fields of science and law.
Bianca’s commitment to making a positive impact in regional and/or rural communities drives her career aspirations in allied health, science, and law. Her passion for giving back to these communities is evident in her active involvement in programs and initiatives that aim to improve the lives of others.

Her ability to excel academically while juggling family responsibilities demonstrates her resilience and determination.
