Why should you study a Business degree at WSU?

The Bachelor of Business at WSU is a degree with broad reach and outcomes! With many different majors to choose from, you can find yourself in a vast amount of career paths when your degree is complete. 

“I really didn’t know what I wanted to do getting out of high school. I thought about Business and how it’s super broad. It will really help me get into any field of work in the future!” Abbey tells us.

#1: Innovative technology and access 

If you so choose, you can take on the Bachelor of Business at the new and innovative Parramatta City campus! This campus has a focus on creating a real-life, work-like atmosphere with advanced technology and learning tools.

#2: Multimodal content delivery 

The Bachelor of Business at WSU caters to all the different types of learners with content delivered in a wide variety of learning modes. 

“We learn in lots of different ways — through watching lectures online and doing readings before attending tutorials, collaborating and chatting with other students about their thoughts and feelings. We also interact with our tutor, putting it all together on the interactive whiteboard at the front of the room!” Abbey tells us. 

#3: Real life experiences 

While there are no internship opportunities for this degree, there are chances to gain some real life experience and genuine feedback from real clients! 

“For my course, there isn’t any practical experience which is a little bit disappointing,” Abbey says.

“However, In saying this, for our capstone unit in Marketing, we were given a real business and told to give marketing recommendations. We were so thrilled to look back after our assessment was complete to see the business implement some of our recommendations,” she adds.

#1: Not all teachers are passionate 

Some of the tutors are awesome! But when they are not, it’s obvious and that’s a bit of a shame.

“A lot of tutors have another job somewhere else and do their teaching on the side. Sometimes you can tell their heart isn’t there,” says Abbey.

“For the tutors where you can tell we are more of a priority, you can instantly tell — they want you to do better, they want you to succeed. I instantly feel more inspired with these types of teachers,” Abbey tells us. 

#2: The students aren’t always social 

Due to the nature of this degree, a very online devoted one, there isn’t a big opportunity to make friends through attending classes and tutorials.

“The campus culture isn’t really that social! I was a bit let down. Pretty much, you go online, complete your lectures, spend a little amount of time on campus, then leave!” Abbey says. 

If you are looking to make friends outside of tutes and lectures, you might have better luck with the WSU Business Society.

#3: Little campus time 

Due to this degree being predominantly online, there is little time for a campus life.

“Around 70% of our course is delivered online! On a platform called vUWS, you will have to watch video lectures, engage with the readings and modules before you attend a tutorial in person.” Abbey says. 

However, in saying this, the online aspects of this degree make them a lot of accessible and engaging for some students! 

Any regrets? 

While Abbey doesn’t necessarily have any regrets about studying this degree, she has some advice for newly commencing Business students.

“If you are going straight from high school to uni, you might have these grand expectations! My suggestion is to go into uni with an open mind,” says Abbey.

“For me, I had these great big expectations that my uni life and experience would be different. When I got there I remembered thinking, this is not what I expected at all,” Abbey adds, 

What do you wish you had known before starting the degree? 

“I wish someone would have told me this too — I really think anyone is capable of completing a uni degree! But the difference between students is, do you want to do the bare minimum to pass or do I want to go beyond and achieve great results?” Abbey reflects.

“It’s important to realise that this is such a competitive field and there are so many people wanting the same jobs when we get out of uni,” she says. 

Like Abbey, if you choose to take on a Bachelor of Business at WSU, you’ll need to understand that because lots of people will be going for the jobs you want, you might need to stand out by impressing employers with your results.

What makes this degree different from the ones offered at other universities? 

The Bachelor of Business at WSU is different to many other university offerings — it has advanced past the need to have extensive face-to-face contact between students and lecturers. 

“This degree is extremely innovative and follows with the trends that are occurring within the Business world!” Abbey tells us. 

This degree is great for people who require or want flexibility within their uni degree! As we’ve mentioned before, this degree is predominantly delivered online, so you’ll have a lot of flexibility.

People who want to complete their degree from a distance or have difficulties attending uni will be able to benefit from the way it’s taught! 

What inspired you to choose this degree?

“This degree is really flexible with the direction you’d like to follow! I think that’s what really drew me to studying here at Western. There are so many paths this degree can take you on! ” Abbey says.

So if you’re someone who isn’t quite sure about what you’d like pursue after uni just yet, taking on this degree might help you uncover that and there are many career paths you can follow afterwards.

A great thing about the Bachelor of Business at WSU is that you are given plenty of options for career paths as a graduate. Your chosen major will also determine your range of career options.
