Reduction and Oxidation Reactions

This post will walk you through reduction and oxidation reactions for VCE Chemistry.

What is a Reduction and Oxidation (Redox) Reaction?

A redox reaction is essentially a reaction that involves the oxidation (loss of electron/s) and reduction (gain of electron/s) of the compounds in the reaction. This video will introduce redox reactions in greater depth.

Oxidation numbers are a way to keep track of where electrons are in a reaction, if there is a change in oxidation number, it will be a redox reaction, if not, then it is not a redox reaction. This video will introduce you to oxidation numbers which are used to determine the transfer of electrons between reactants in a reaction if it is redox.

How Can We Write Out Redox Reactions?

This video will go through how to write out these reactions.
