Rational Functions as Partial Fractions is a part of the VCE Specialist Maths topic Algebra and subtopic Partial Fractions. It looks at the definition of a rational function and the expression of rational functions of low degrees as sums of partial fractions. It is important to note that:
- partial fraction decomposition breaks apart a complex fraction into smaller, simpler fractions. This is the reverse of adding two fractions together into a single fraction.
Watch this video to learn all the steps to decompose fractions, and help you understand the idea that rational fractions can be split into partial fractions.
