Let’s learn all about inverse functions! This is part of the VCE Maths Methods syllabus from the topic Algebra and subtopic Polynomials. In this post, we will explore functions and their inverses, including:
- Conditions for the existence of an inverse.
- Domain and range.
Here we will learn to define the inverse relation of a function y = mx+b to be the relation obtained by reversing all the ordered pairs of the function.
This video is an introduction to functions and their inverses.
The Domain and Range of Inverse Functions
The domain and range of a function can provide following important information about its inverse:
- The domain of the original function is the range of its inverse.
- The range of the original function is the domain of its inverse.
- Looking at the denominator of any fractions that occur in the function.
The following videos will explore restrictions on the domain, and how to find the range and domain.
