Circular Motion Situations

This lesson is on Circular Motion Situations, which is part of Unit 3 Area of Study 3 for VCE Physics. It comes under the subtopic of Newton’s Laws of Motion.

Let’s analyse the forces acting on an object executing uniform circular motion. Some situations in which we can find uniform circular motion include:

  • Cars moving around horizontal circular bends
  • A mass on a string
  • Objects on banked tracks

Banked curves

Let’s check out an example of circulation motion on a banked curve:

Mass on a string

Here is an example of a mass on a string with a circular motion.

Examples of circular motion, banked curves and static friction

Finally, here are examples on all of the three examples we have considered above.
