#10 Adamo and Francesca Boncardo Equity Scholarship $6k/yr

Established in 2017, this USYD scholarship aims to assist undergraduate students experiencing financial hardship and/or have come from a low socio-economic high-school and can demonstrate such circumstances. It’s one of the scholarships at USYD that is awarded primarily on the basis of academic merit and financial hardship.

Monetary Value

The Adamo and Francesca Boncardo Equity Scholarship is worth $6000 a year for the duration of an undergraduate degree. 

Application Process 

  • Applicants must be able to prove they are experiencing financial hardship and/or have come from a financially disadvantaged background
  • Applicants must submit an online application form found on USYD’s website, which is then assessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor

#9 The Sydney Scholars Award $6k/yr

This USYD scholarship is highly competitive and awarded to Year 12 graduates planning to study at the University of Sydney. Students with an ATAR of 95+ may be eligible for either $6000 per year for the duration of their undergraduate degree, or $6000 for one year of their undergraduate degree. 

Monetary Value

The Sydney Scholars Award is worth $6000 per annum for 1 to 5 years. 

Application Process 

The application process for the Sydney Scholars Award is highly competitive, and few spaces are awarded to students. Applications close in September the year before students commence, and offers are made on release of ATARs in December. Students should apply if they: 

  • Have received or are expecting to receive an ATAR of 95+, unless applying for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music or the Sydney Dental School, which requires an ATAR of 90+
  • Must apply in the year they complete Year 12 
  • Application requires a personal statement and submission of the most recent school report

#8 University of Sydney Access Scholarship $6k/yr

The University of Sydney Access Scholarship is awarded to non-recent school leavers who wish to commence tertiary study at Sydney University. It’s one of the scholarships at USYD that is designed to accommodate students undergoing financial hardship or other difficulties, so they can pursue undergraduate studies. 

Monetary Value 

The Access Scholarship is worth $6000 per year of a full-time undergraduate degree. 

Application Process

Applicants are accessed on the basis that they meet one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island person 
  • Come from a low socio-economic status
  • Have carer responsibilities
  • Have long-term medical condition/disability 
  • Have sole-parent responsibilities
  • Regional or remote disadvantage
  • Refugee status

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolling in an undergraduate degree at Sydney Uni and not hold any previous tertiary degrees. Applicants will also be assessed on academic merit and submit their applications via the UAC portal.

#7 V John Plummer Scholarship in Business $6.5k/yr

This scholarship is awarded to those undergraduate students commencing their studies at the Business School of Sydney Uni. It seeks to award those who demonstrate academic merit and meet one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Financial Disadvantage 
  • Rural/Remote area
  • Medical Disability 

Applicants will also be assessed on academic merit. 

Monetary Value

The V John Plummer Scholarship in Business is worth $6,500 a year for the duration of an undergraduate degree in Business. 

Application Process

All applications for the V John Plummer Scholarship in Business are made through the UAC portal. Applicants should also keep in mind that this scholarship cannot be deferred and is not transferable to another degree program.

#6 The Clissold Scholarship $7k/yr

Introduced in 2018 by the late Geoffrey Kenneth Clissold, the Clissold Scholarship strives to assist those undergraduate students from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The scholarship is available to those commencing studies in either USYD’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or Sydney Uni’s Business School. 

Monetary Value

The Clissold Scholarship is worth $7000 per year for the duration of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or University of Sydney Business School. 

Application Process 

Applicants are assessed on the basis that they meet one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island person 
  • Come from a low socio-economic status
  • Have carer responsibilities
  • Have long-term medical condition/disability 
  • Have sole-parent responsibilities
  • Regional or remote disadvantage

It’s one of those scholarships at USYD where in order to be eligible, students must accept an unconditional offer to commence an undergraduate degree in either USYD’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or Sydney Uni’s Business School. Applicants will also be assessed on academic merit.

#5 Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship $10k/yr

Awarded in the honour of John Bradfield, the architect who designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this is one of the USYD scholarships that seeks to reward those students interested in ideas of urbanisation, civil innovation, and technology. Applicants must be either in the 1st or 2nd or year of their undergraduate degree, have a WAM of 65+ and be enrolled in one of the following faculties/schools at Sydney Uni:

  • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,
  • Faculty of Engineering,
  • Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning, and
  • University of Sydney Business School.

Applicants must also be undertaking studies in one of the above listed faculties/schools that is related to urbanism which includes but is not limited to, urban development, urban planning, urban design, urban/social policy, project finance, project and/or facilities management, transport logistics and engineering.

Monetary Value

The Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship is worth $10,000 per year for the duration of a full-time undergraduate degree, which also includes combined degree programs.

Application Process

Applicants are assessed on academic merit and are required to submit an essay responding to the advertised essay question. For example, the 2019 question was: 

“How can truly global cities like Sydney evolve to ensure our lived experiences are front and centre in future urban development?”

Shortlisted applicants for one of the most lucrative scholarships at USYD will be required to present a 5 minute presentation with visual aids to a selection panel consisting of representatives from the above faculties.

#4 Chancellor’s Award $10k/yr

This USYD Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving school-leavers who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree at the university. Awarded to those school-leavers who have achieved a minimum ATAR of 99.90, the scholarship offers those successful candidates priority access to accommodation near Sydney University’s Camperdown campus and access to leadership programs. 

Monetary Value 

The Chancellor’s Award is worth $10,000 each year for the duration of a student’s undergraduate degree. 

Application Process

There is no application process for this scholarship. The Chancellor’s Award is awarded automatically on the release of ATAR results via UAC and students must have a USYD course on their UAC preferences.

#3 Sciences Po Dual Degree Equity Scholarship $15k/yr

Established in 2020, this USYD scholarship endeavours to support undergraduate students studying a Sciences Po dual degree and can demonstrate circumstances of disadvantage or hardship. The dual degrees include a Bachelor of Arts (Sciences Po) and a Bachelor of Economics (Sciences Po).

The scholarship was also funded by a bequest made in 1973 to the university and several donations made by Gladys Marks.

Monetary Value

The Sciences Po Dual Degree Equity Scholarship is worth $15,000 per year for 2 years. 

Application Process

Applicants are assessed on the basis that they meet one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island person 
  • Come from a low socio-economic status
  • Have carer responsibilities
  • Have long-term medical condition/disability 
  • Have sole-parent responsibilities
  • Regional or remote disadvantage

As one of the most lucrative scholarships at Sydney Uni, it is awarded on the basis of academic merit and the submission of a personal statement demonstrating disadvantage or hardship. The personal statement is then assessed by a selection committee consisting of Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Programs, or their nominated delegates and the Head of Strategic and Partnerships and Engagement or their nominated delegates.

#2 The Rosebrook Foundation Indigenous Accommodation Scholarship $15k/yr

This scholarship aims to award Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian students who are either current students at the University of Sydney or are seeking to commence study there. The scholarship was established in 2015 through a donation from the Rosebrook Foundation to support undergraduate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students with their accommodation and living costs while studying at Sydney Uni. 

It is primarily awarded based on academic merit, including school results and demonstration of financial need and/or independent living.

Monetary Value 

The Rosebrook Foundation Indigenous Accommodation Scholarship is worth $15,000 per year for up to 5 years.  

Application Process

To be considered for one of USYD’s most generous scholarships, candidates must submit a personal statement which includes why they would benefit from the scholarship, which is then assessed by a selection committee consisting of the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Services).

#1 Adam Scott Foundation Scholarship $50k/yr

Available for undergraduate students commencing their study at Sydney Uni, this scholarship supports those experiencing hardship or disadvantage. The scholarship was founded in 2019 by the Adam Scott Foundation – a foundation dedicated to working with young Australians’ achieve their education goals.

The benefits of this scholarship include:

  • $10,000 per year towards living expenses
  • Up to $15,000 towards tuition fees
  • Up to $25,000 towards accommodation costs for students in university-owned accommodation

Monetary Value

The Adam Scott Foundation Scholarship is worth up to $50,000 per year for up to 4 years. 

Application Process 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be under the age of 30, commencing their undergraduate studies at Sydney Uni, and demonstrate financial hardship or other disadvantages.

The scholarship is awarded upon academic merit and a personal statement – one in which candidates describe their commitment to extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and how pursuing a tertiary education will allow them to fulfil their goals. Successful shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview with the selection committee.
