What makes Rebeccah a Trailblazer?

Through her volunteer work with RISE Coffs Harbour, Rebeccah is able to impact the lives of young children, many of whom are refugees.

Rebeccah also attended the National Youth Science Forum in early 2022, and is attending the London International Youth Science Forum in July! It was a rigorous process to be accepted into these science forums, and to attend, Rebeccah had to raise funds so that she was able to go.

This demonstrates her strong dedication to her work, something that she has also shown through her dedication to RISE Coffs Harbour, waking up early each Wednesday to earn the trust of the kids that she works with. In addition to all of this work outside of school, Rebecah also plays netball and basketball, putting in hours of training to improve her skills.

By engaging in volunteer work with RISE and getting involved in the NYSF and LIYSF, Rebeccah has learned the importance of determination, and honed this skill. She notes that the experiences that she would gain at these science forums were invaluable, and so she became determined to raise enough funds to attend, working hard to do so.

Similarly, she understood the importance of being a kind figure in the lives of the kids that she works with at RISE, and as such, put in an innumerable amount of effort to ensure that she became someone that they could trust and rely on. This determination to both succeed and help others is inspiring!

Despite all of these amazing achievements, Rebeccah does acknowledge the challenges that can arise when managing them with school. Due to these commitments, she has had to be absent from school, which means that she must be aware of her time management, to catch up on any missed work.

Rebeccah is also having to prepare for the London International Youth Science Forum, as she will be in London for 3 and a half weeks. This will mean she will miss her HSC Trials period, and as such, will need to prepare and organise arrangements to ensure that she can still manage school and being away from home.

“For RISE, I came in as an outsider and needed to earn the trust of the kids I work with. These kids have been through so much, so I was determined to wake up early each Wednesday and put in the effort to help these kids open up to me.”

In the future, Rebeccah hopes to study medicine, specialising in either emergency or radiology. With all of Rebeccah’s past achievements, we are sure that she will achieve her future goals as well!

Rebeccah is kind, diligent, determined and hard-working. Her dedication to her work both inside and outside of school makes her one of our Top 50 Trailblazers!
