What makes Gabriella a Trailblazer?

Gabriella has a strong passion for animal treatment and welfare. Over the past three years she has been a long-term volunteer with the Animal Welfare League, accumulating over 130 volunteering hours! Gabriella knows issues in animal welfare should have more of a spotlight in the general public and admires the work of animal rescue groups who aim to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife and domestic animals!

While volunteering at the Animal Welfare League, Gabriella has held many positions; running orientations for new volunteers, assisting in food and medication preparation, bathing and socialising animals as well as cleaning cages and clinical areas. Gabriella is not afraid to get down in the nitty gritty!

Supporting herself and investing in her own passions and skillet, Gabriella has also completed a Certificate in Pet Care – Veterinary Assistance where she learnt basic medical and administrative practices in the veterinary clinic.

She even has work experience on a local poultry farm, where she completed health examinations and everyday procedures. Gabriella was even allowed to observe an avian necropsy! Talk about experience in the field! As a young and talented woman, Gabriella is clearly an incredibly valuable member of the Veterinary community.

As if Gabriella wasn’t busy enough, she also completed and now holds a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and served on her school’s charity and service leadership team. She also participated in the school’s choir and concert band and swim squads!

Since 2018, Gabriella’s father has been battling a number of serious illnesses. In lieu of his continued ill health, Gabriella missed school and study time to support her family. Further, Gabriella also supported her younger sister who is completing school through distance education by helping her with her studies.

As one can imagine, managing school, family and her father’s health has been a source of stress and anxiety. Helping and supporting her family has taken time from her own Year 12 studies, however Gabriella has truly learnt the value of family and maintaining her study.

As one might guess, Gabriella wishes to delve into the world of Veterinary Science and practice as a Veterinarian. Though she is unsure what species she would like to focus on, she has taken her childhood dream job and made it a really likely future!

“It has been incredibly heartwarming to see how my help with simple tasks and procedures allows the Animal Welfare League staff to provide quality care to surrendered and neglected animals.”

Gabriella’s awesome work in the Veterinary community and her capability to balance personal life while at school has landed her a place in our Top 50 Trailblazers!
