What makes Demi a Trailblazer?

Demi was chosen by the Mayor of Blacktown to become the current Blacktown City Council Youth Ambassador. One of two representatives, Demi uses this role to speak on behalf of and advocate for young people and their issues. She was awarded this role after regularly speaking at Civic Receptions and Ceremonies, being sure to use her voice to implement change and inspire others to get involved!

This position has allowed her to meet various influential individuals and participate in the Sister Cities and Youth Advisory committees where she gathers insight from people with diverse backgrounds to help better understand her role’s purpose. Demi has spoken and participated in events such as Citizenship Ceremonies and Civic Receptions also making appearances as a representative for local youth.

As part of her position on the Youth Advisory Committee, she planned, implemented and marketed Youth Week Events that aimed to highlight young people’s creativity and sportsmanship. Recently, Demi also shared her experiences and advice in a HSC Forum as a guest speaker, something she will be continuing to do as a guest speaker for Headspace’s HSC Drop In Zoom sessions.

When it came to the HSC, Demi found that the pandemic really affected the quality of her study and made it difficult for her to return to the same levels of productivity as before. Despite several attempts to return face-to-face she was unfortunately unsuccessful. Compounded by the constraints of a pandemic, Demi knows how tough it was to be a student.

“I have been inspired by the processes of Council and love being involved in the steps towards a brighter future for our youth.”

Demi is a recipient of the Leadership and Teamwork Long Tan award from the Australian Defence Force, she plans to put these skills to use working in business and law in the future. As frameworks for society, Demi is intent on playing a part in its betterment!
