What makes Adriana a Trailblazer?

Adriana has been an active member in her school community holding leadership positions each year going from a Mercy Action Representative to a Student Representative Council Leader and Senior House Leader in Year 12. This required her to be a role model for students and bring enthusiasm to school carnivals, competitions and extra-curriculars! To aid in this role, Adriana used her public speaking skills that she worked on since Year 7.

However Adriana’s proudest achievement is a story much closer to her heart. During her HSC, Adriana decided to rally together a school team for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Mother’s Day Classic, a fundraiser event that raises money to help find cures for breast cancer. After Adriana’s previous participation over the last 5 years, she decided that she wanted to try and make a bigger impact. This involved Adriana initially pitching the idea to her school’s principal and vice principal which eventually led to her speaking in front of her school at assemblies to over 1,000 staff and students as well as using social media to raise awareness.

Adriana’s decision to do this was inspired by her mother’s passing after a battle with breast cancer. Her proximity to the cause ignited her drive and showed her that she could inspire change in the community. Through this experience Adriana developed true determination and persistence, committing hours upon hours to the cause.

In the future, Adriana would love to work in criminal investigation as a forensic scientist. Naturally, at university she wants to pursue a Bachelor of Forensic Science and Bachelor of Criminology where she can learn more about the psychology of crime and how to catch criminals!

“It was ultimately the death of my mum that inspired me to create change in the community through the  Mother’s Day Classic.”

The pure strength and passion Adriana has shown is why she is one our 2021 Trailblazers.
