How To Bounce Back from a Bad Exam Mark With These 3 Simple Tips

So, you got a bad exam mark?

I feel for you. It totally sucks receiving a result which you don’t think you deserve.

You may have studied day after day, but still managed to get a mark in which you don’t consider satisfactory. Many people experience this, and it does suck.

However, it is up to you how you decide to turn it around, and form a positive from these results.

In this article I’ve combined three tips in order for you to turn your bad exam mark around, and understand never to make the same mistake again.

Step 1: Move Forward

It is quite easy to get caught up in your bad exam mark, and letting it consume your emotions. I know that getting a bad mark sucks, but it’s how you react to that bad exam mark.

It is key that you don’t let it consume you, and that you move forward.

Many people I know give up when they get a bad exam mark. They have put in all the hard work, then they get a bad exam mark, and all of a sudden they feel defeated and refuse to try again.

I understand it is a complete kick in the guts when you get a bad mark. However, if you wish to come back stronger, you need to continue to put in the effort to do well. Effort pays off.

The main thing is that you never make the same mistake again. But be sure to remember that!

Step 2: Work Harder

If you get a bad exam mark, you need to come back ten times harder.

I know that it can be a massive blow of confidence to receive a bad exam mark. However you need to channel that devastation, and put it towards working harder.

You cannot allow yourself to fall back and put less time and effort into your school work. That will only make things worse.

I myself, have been one to let bad exam marks get to me. For a period of time I just did not feel like doing anything. I was extremely negative and decided that I wasn’t going to try any harder. BIG MISTAKE!

This put me in quite a negative state and I was soon to realise that I needed to lift my game. Why was I going to just throw away all my hard work? There was no way I was going to let a couple of bad exam marks define the rest of my year.

Don’t throw away all your hard work – keep persisting! You will get there in the end.

If you’ve only just started Year 12 and got a bad mark, you still have all the opportunity to bounce back despite your disappointing first results!

Step 3: Take Some Constructive Criticism

Constructive criticism is criticism that helps you to improve!

Constructive criticism are comments that aim to help you. They are not supposed to be comments that are meant to belittle you or make you feel insignificant.

In order for you to get better and push you to work harder, you need to accept constructive criticism.

Although some constructive criticism comments can be hard to hear, they need to be acknowledged.

Take on board the constructive criticism and try it out! See whether what they’re saying works for you. It may not work out, but it might just be the component that you have been lacking which solves all your problems!
