How to Create Your 30 Day HSC Trials Study Plan in 4 Simple Steps to Boost Your Marks

You’re a month out from Trials, plenty of time to study right?

WRONG! One month to study for 10-13 units means studying in these 30 days is pivotal for success!

But don’t worry! I’m here to walk you through the ultimate 30 day HSC Trials study plan to help you get on track and keep on track!

How much time do you actually have until HSC Trials?
What is a HSC Trials Study Plan?
Step 1: Work out your goal marks for your HSC Trials
Step 2: Write your 4 week to-do list
Step 3: Rinse and repeat with all your subjects
Step 4: Put it up on your wall where you can see it

How much time do you actually have until HSC Trials?

1 month = 30 days until HSC Trials.

Assuming I studied (homework, assessment preparation, and all school related work inclusive) 3 hours EVERY day between now and my Trials, I would have 90 hours of available study time.

30 days @ 3 hours study per day = 90 available study hours.

I’m taking 10 units (the minimum) which is 5 x 2 unit subjects. So this means I’ve got 18 hours per subject of available study times.

90 study hours / 5 subjects = 18 hours per subject of study time.

9 hours to do EVERYTHING for a subject!
  • Learn the content that’s being taught for Term 2.
  • Revise the content for the entire HSC course
  • Write study notes for all the Term 2 content
  • Write/enhance your study notes for the rest of the HSC course covered in prior terms
  • Write practice essays/long responses and get the marked for feedback
  • Complete homework provided by my teacher
  • Prepare for and complete any Term 2 smaller assessments
  • Complete HSC practice papers

When you look at it this way, there’s A LOT to do to prepare for your HSC Trials and 30 days really isn’t much time at all!

And this is where that old chestnut, ‘Failure to plan, is planning to fail’ is so true.

If you don’t make a plan for what you need to do and when you are going to do it, it’s highly likely the following will happen…

Cramming!

It’s a month before the HSC Trials and you’re freaking out and cramming like crazy.

Your study notes aren’t complete, you haven’t done any practice papers, and you’re madly trying to write your notes, learn the content, do past papers and get feedback and you feel completely overwhelmed and stressed out of your mind.

You are extremely worried you’re going to bomb your HSC Trials and all you can keep thinking is ‘Why didn’t I start earlier?….’

There’s good news though.

All of this can be avoided by doing 1 simple thing: create a HSC Trials Study Plan.

What is a HSC Trials Study Plan?

A HSC Trials Study Plan maps out all the things you need to do to prepare for your HSC Trials for every subject, with time frames you need to complete these by.

The HSC Trials Study plan will ensure you can effectively prepare for your exams and smash those Trials!

Note: Regardless as to when you read this article, the same process for creating your HSC Trials Study Plan still applies. With less time, having a plan is even more important!

How to create a HSC Trials study plan

We’ve put 4 simple steps together for you to follow here to create your ultimate HSC Trials Planner.

But before we dive in, check out our video on how to create a killer HSC Trials study plan!

Step 1: Work out your goal marks for your HSC Trials

You need to have a goal for what marks you want to achieve from your HSC Trials as this will completely determine the amount of work you will need to do over the next 30 days. It will also help you stay motivated and overcome the urge to procrastinate!

But how can you do this that doesn’t involve picking a random number out of the air?

The most effective way to set your goal HSC Trials marks is to use a Reverse ATAR Calculator.

We’ve written here in depth, step by step about how you can use a Reverse ATAR Calculator to set your goals marks.

What is a reverse ATAR calculator?

A Reverse ATAR Calculator enables you to insert your goal ATAR and the subjects you are studying.

It then backwards calculates what HSC Marks you need to score to achieve your goal ATAR!

Pretty neat right?

What this then enables you to do is to develop a clear picture of what you actually need to do to get your goal ATAR (rather than just hoping and guessing) as it gives you the specific marks you need.

Write these goal marks down for each of your subjects.

These goals marks are now what you are working towards over the next 30 days to achieve.

Read this article here for more on how to use a Reverse ATAR calculator to work out your goal HSC Trial marks.

Step 2: Write your 4 week to-do list

Pick one of your subjects and on a piece of paper (or our HSC Trials Study Planner) write the following down at the top:

  • Name of the subject
  • Your HSC Trials Goal Mark

Then draw 2 lines down the page to break the piece of paper into thirds.

At the top of each column write the following:
  • Week 1
  • Week 2
  • Week 3
  • Week 4

It will now look like this.

Now take 10 minutes for each column to write a to-do list for everything you need to for that particular subject over the next 4 weeks to give you the best shot of scoring your goal mark that you’ve written at the top of the page!

Here’s an example of what this should look like.

Once you’ve done this, you’ve now got your 30 Day HSC Trials Plan for 1 subject!

Congratulations!

Step 3: Rinse and repeat with all your subjects

The next step is to rinse and repeat on Step 2 for ALL of your subjects.

Download your free HSC Trials Planner below and get started now!

What you should end up with is 5-6 pieces of paper with 30 Day to-do lists for each of your subjects so that each time you sit down to study, you know exactly what you need to work on!

Step 4: Put it up on your wall where you can see it

This is critical. Don’t leave your HSC Trials Planner as a document on your computer – you won’t look at it regularly enough.

You want this to be something that’s in your face, every day, so you cannot ignore it! You want this to be a powerful call to action and reminder each day of the work you need to do.

So, hang it up on your wall, your door, your window, your fridge. Just somewhere where you will easily see if EVERY day!

Each day and week as you complete a task/action on your list, put a big fat red line through it – this way you will also get a really simple and clear visualisation (based on the amount of red lines) of your progress towards studying for your HSC Trials.

And it will feel awesome each time you cross out an task on your planner!

Conclusion

Creating your HSC Trials Study Plan is super simple. And it will be a game changer for the quality and effectiveness of your study for your HSC Trials, and the marks you end up scoring!

So, what are you waiting for? Get planning!
