The 7 Types of HSC Students

How are we all feeling?

Maybe you’re overwhelmed, calm, on top of things, stressed or maybe even excited?

I asked a bunch of HSC students to give their most honest opinion as to how they’re currently feeling and their thoughts on school.

Their answers can pretty much fall into 7 main personality groups, which gives us the (unofficial) list of the 7 Types of HSC Students!

1. The Overly Organised
2. The Withering Rose
3. The Dory
4. The Anxious
5. The Sidetracked
6. The Excited
7. The Procrastinator

1. The Overly Organised

These are the HSC students many see and secretly fear! The colour coordinated planners, every minute of every week is organised, they have a routine that does not change.

However, upon being overly organised that can cause chaos when it doesn’t go to plan.

These people are feeling good when everything is on track. But like a train off tracks, everything slowly falls apart when it’s not.

2. The Withering Rose

There was no better way to sum these HSC students up than:

“I just want my normal, no-school life back. I’m not feeling very me. Nothing interesting is happening, I’m slowly losing myself. I’m just withering away into the depth of an education.”

As deep and semi depressing as it sounds, I feel like this is a common feeling – just maybe not that deeply existential.

These are HSC students who are being taken over by school and feel as if they’re slowly losing their identity.

I must confess I am slowly starting to feel less like myself.

Mostly because all of my spare time is slowly becoming consumed by school work too, not giving me the time to do things I’d normally like to.

3. The Dory

This HSC student may not be the smartest or best student, but they always give it a go.

They’re the positive ones who continuously get the job done without complaining.

They maintain their optimistic outlook and inspire others with the mentality: “just keep swimming, just keep swimming.”

Personally I think I have a little bit of Dory in me. I try to always see the positive and be a cheery, happy person to encourage others, although sometimes it doesn’t work out like that.

4. The Anxious

These are the HSC students who are always worrying or nervous about what’s to come next.

Being anxious isn’t always a bad thing and many people, especially in year 12, develop this.

I think its natural for those under stress to develop low-key anxiety in times of stress.

I know at times I slowly panic and stress out a lot especially leading into exam week.

5. The Sidetracked

Upon asking how they’re feeling, the initial reaction is usually something along the lines of “great! I’m loving life”.

After investigating further into their answer, these HSC students are the ones who are ‘sidetracked’ from school and temporarily occupied with something more important or exciting.

They often see school as a place where they pend their day hanging out with friends and socialising.

6. The Excited

You know, the HSC students who are always excited about something?

Whether it be the weekend, holidays, future? Anything!

They are in a good mood 99% of the time and try to make everyone else see the positive in any given circumstances.

Sometimes people get jealous and maybe a little annoyed at how these people can maintain such a positive attitude all the time.

To be completely honest, I am so excited to finish school and move on into the future. I know for many it’s a scary thought but I look forward to it!

7. The Procrastinator

I feel like everyone has a little bit of a procrastinator in them. Whether it be procrasti-baking, procrasti-sleeping, procrasti-eating, procrasti-cleaning, procrasti-anything!

These are the HSC students who know that they have work to do, but find other activities to fill in that time – putting off the tasks that really need to be competed.

And that rounds off our list of the 7 types of HSC students! Good luck!
