How to Bounce Back From a Bad Half-Yearly Report With These 3 Simple Tips

I used to HATE getting half-yearly reports.

If the marks aren’t exactly what you’re hoping for it can create a bit of an awkward conversation with your parents.

However, you can still use the next 6 months to improve your marks drastically!

In this video, I’m going to share with you THREE simple things you can do to learn from your mistakes and turn your results around.

Tip #1: Lean in
Tip #2: Keep, Start, Stop
Tip #3: Get Some Help

Tip #1: Lean in

Often when we get average results, we try and avoid looking at them because it’s a bit painful.

You may just want to scrunch it up, throw it in the bin and never think about it again!

However, it’s critically important that you view the feedback and results you receive in your half-yearly report to figure out what you need to do differently next time.

But how do you do this?

Tip #2: Keep, Start, Stop

Here’s a simple trick you can use to analyse your results effectively.

Keep

You know that subject you didn’t do too well in?

I want you to look at what you think you did RIGHT. For example, maybe you did your homework consistently.

This allows you to identify what you need to continue doing into the future if you want to ace your results!

Start

What do you need to start doing more of?

Maybe you didn’t do enough study notes or maybe you need to work more on your time management.

These are the things you need to implement into your study process down the track.

Remember: it requires a lot of initiative and dedication if you want to make changes that are effective and long-lasting!

Stop

What didn’t work for you?

What were the bad habits that affected your study negatively? Perhaps you’re a procrastinator or you haven’t been paying enough attention in class.

Once you know what these are, you can get started on cutting them out!

This is a really simple exercise. But it helps you ensure that you’re LEANING into your feedback and IDENTIFYING anything that needs to be changed.

Tip #3: Get Some Help

Getting your half-yearly reports back is the perfect opportunity to look at getting some extra help!

Depending on what feedback you’ve received and the reasons why you haven’t done too well, it may be the right time to get a tutor or mentor for support.

If you haven’t done well just because you’ve been lazy, a tutor or mentor isn’t going to do much for you.

You still need to be putting the work in!

However, if you’re genuinely struggling with the key content of a subject putting more work in might not be enough to improve your results on its own.

This is when you should start thinking about getting some outside support.
