The Process of Protein Synthesis

How are Proteins Synthesised?

This post will go through the process of protein synthesis for QCE Biology.

4.1.3 – Gene Expression

  • Explain the process of protein synthesis in terms of:
    • Transcription of a gene into messenger RNA in the nucleus
    • Translation of mRNA into an amino acid sequence at the ribosome (refer to transfer RNA, codons and anticodons)

Transcription and Translation

The two processes of protein synthesis are transcription (where the DNA is copied by into mRNA) and translation (where the mRNA is converted into a polypeptide chain in ribosomes)

This video goes through protein synthesis.

This video goes through transcription and translation in a little more detail.

This is a useful animation of protein synthesis.
