Reactions of Saturated and Unsaturated Compounds
This post will go through saturated vs unsaturated compound reactions for QCE Chemistry.
4.1.3 – Organic Reactions and Reaction Pathways
- Understand that saturated compounds contain single bonds only and undergo substitution reactions, and that unsaturated compounds contain double or triple bonds and undergo addition reactions
- Determine the primary, secondary and tertiary carbon atoms in halogenoalkanes and alcohols and apply IUPAC rules of nomenclature
Addition Reactions
This video goes through addition reactions.
Substitution Reactions
This video goes through substitution reactions.
Small Review
This video is a good review of addition and substitution reactions.
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Carbons
This video goes through primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols. Note that for haloalkanes, it is the same except the OH group is replaced with a halogen.
This is a video with a practice question for identifying primary/secondary/tertiary carbons.
