Phenotype and Gene Expression

Visible Gene Expression

This post will go through phenotype and gene expression for QCE Biology.

4.1.3 – Gene Expression

  • Identify that there are factors that regulate the phenotypic expression of genes
    • During transcription and translation (proteins that bind to specific DNA sequences)
    • Through the products of other genes
    • Via environmental exposure (consider the twin methodology in epigenetic studies)

What is Phenotypic Expression?

The phenotype of an organism is essentially gene expression that is visible to others (e.g. colour of hair).

This video will go through phenotypic expression in a little more detail.

Regulating Gene Expression

This video will go through some factors that regulate gene expression

This video will go through the relationship between an organism’s environment and its gene expression.
