Introduction to Macromolecules: Polymers, Proteins and Carbohydrates

What are Macromolecules?

This video will be an introduction to macromolecules: polymers, proteins and carbohydrates for QCE Chemistry.

4.2.3 – Macromolecules: Polymers, Proteins and Carbohydrates

  • Describe, using equations, how addition polymers can be produced from their monomers including polyethene (LDPE and HDPE), polypropene and polytetrafluorethene
  • Describe, using equations, how condensation polymers, including polypeptides (proteins), polysaccharides (carbohydrates) and polyesters, can be produced from their monomers

Addition Polymers

Although this was explored in an earlier post, this video goes through addition polymers.

This video goes through PTFE.

Condensation Polymers

This video goes through condensation polymers, a concept you should be familiar with from earlier posts.

This video goes through the naturally occurring polymers proteins, carbohydrates and DNA.
