How many students drop HSC PDHPE?

Well, between 2019 and 2020, 22.68% of students who were studying HSC PDHPE dropped the subject. This is exactly 2524 students! 

When we look at data from the past 8 years, we see the average amount of students who drop PDHPE remains quite steady, with an average of 22.51% from 2012-2020. This is about 7 in 20 students every year!

Are more or less people taking HSC PDHPE?

Since 2012, the number of students dropping PDHPE has remained extremely steady.  The lowest drop rate for HSC PDHPE was in the 2016-2017 cohort at 21.52%, the highest drop rate was 23.55% in the cohort after that (2017-2018)! 

This could be due to the fact that the PDHPE Syllabus has not had dramatic changes in a few years!

Are more girls or boys dropping HSC PDHPE?

Funnily enough, PDHPE is actually one of the few subjects with a larger difference between the amount of girls and boys who drop PDHPE. Data from the past 8 years suggests that on average, 19.44% of girls drop PDHPE compared to 26.17% of boys! 

This could suggest that more boys drop to HSC PDHPE than girls.

Is HSC PDHPE a popular subject to drop?

When choosing your HSC subjects, it is important to make sure you have a good balance. Many students pick PDHPE based on their love for the area of study! But there are a few students who choose to drop the subject. Given this, it is no surprise to see PDHPE as a very popular subject to drop. 

In fact, HSC PDHPE is the seventh most dropped subject of the subjects with the highest enrolment figures in the entire HSC

What’s the average mark for people who take HSC PDHPE?

Over the past five years, the average mark for students who studied PDHPE is 73.6, or a low Band 4. Remember that the HSC does not give part marks, this is just an average. Between 2016 and 2020, the average mark has fluctuated between 73 and 74. Again, PDHPE shows a great level of consistency in data!

How likely is it that I’ll get a Band 6 in HSC PDHPE?

So we know that the average PDHPE mark is 73.6 (Band 4), now let’s take a look at how many people get a Band 6!

Well, across the past five years an average of 8.40% of students who take HSC PDHPE students claim a Band 6. That is around 2 in 25 people! 

What about the other Bands?

As a Band 4 Average would suggest, most PDHPE Students get a Band 4 at 28.60%. This is followed by Band 5 at 24.60% of PDHPE students receiving it.

What’s the top ATAR I can get with HSC PDHPE?

The highest ATAR anyone can achieve with any subject combination is really 99.95.

In the past five years, the highest ATAR achieved with PDHPE has been 99.95 except for 2017 where the highest ATAR reached 99.9! (So close!!)
