Velocity

Velocity is the measure of how fast a particle is travelling.  It is a vector quantity which means it also has a direction (positive or negative). It is the measure of the change in displacement over time. This can also be said to be the first derivative of a displacement function! This is part of the Prelim Maths Extension 1 Syllabus from the topic Calculus: Rates of Change. In this post, we will explore Rates of change with respect to time velocity.

Here we will learn to describe the rate of change with respect to time of the displacement of a particle moving along the -axis as a derivative \frac{dx}{dt} .
