The Role of Catalysts

How can we Lower the Activation Energy?

This post will introduce the idea of catalysis and the role of catalysts for Prelim Chemistry.

Topic: Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions

  • Model and analyse the role of catalysts in reactions

Introducing Catalysts

From the last post, we were introduced to activation energy and energy diagrams. This video will introduce catalysts.

How Catalysts Affect Activation Energy

Recalling that activation energy refers to the minimum amount of energy required for a reaction to proceed, catalysts are simply substances or surfaces that lower this required activation energy which enable more reactions. This video will show you how catalysts affect activation energy through an energy diagram.
