Rutherford and Bohr Atomic Models

This section is part of the HSC Physic syllabus Module 8: From the Universe to the Atom. As we dive into the quantum mechanical nature of the atom we are going to understand and assess the limitations of the Rutherford and Bohr atomic models.

Here are explanations of the two models:

  • The Rutherford Model shows an atom with electrons orbiting a fixed, positively charged nucleus in set, predictable paths.
  • The Bohr model shows electrons travel in defined circular orbits around the nucleus.
