Proving and Applying Trigonometric Pythagorean Identities

How do I prove and apply trigonometric identities?

In this post, we will be proving and applying the trigonometric Pythagorean identities below, as a part of the Prelim Maths Advanced course under the topic Trigonometric Functions and sub-part Trigonometric Functions. We learn the difference between an equation and an identity.

  • cos^{2}(x) + sin^{2}(x) = 1
  • 1 + tan^{2}(x) = sec^{2}(x)
  • 1 + cot^{2}(x) = cosec^{2}(x)

This video covers the three types of Pythagorean identities and examples of how they are used and proved.
