This topic is apart of the HSC Physics syllabus Module 5: Advanced Mechanics.

Learn to investigate the orbital motion of planets and artificial satellites when applying the relationships between the following quantities:

  • Orbital Velocity

The formula for the orbital period is the following:

v=\sqrt{\frac{GM_1}{r}} 
  • G is the gravitational constant
  • M is the mass of the planet
  • r is the radius
  • v is the orbital velocity
