Nuclear Fission

This section is part of the HSC Physic syllabus Module 8: From the universe to the atom, Quantum Mechanical Nature of the Atom.

In this post, we will model and explain the process of nuclear fission, including the concepts of controlled and uncontrolled chain reactions, and account for the release of energy in the process.

Some definitions for this section are as follows:

  • Nuclear Fusion is the process of producing energy by colliding small atoms
  • Nuclear Fission is the process of splitting an atom into two or more smaller nuclei as fission products
