How Can We Model Chemical Reactions?
This video will go through some modelling techniques used to describe chemical reactions for Prelim Chemistry.
Topic: Chemical Reactions
- Use modelling to demonstrate:
- The rearrangement of atoms to form new substances
- The conservation of atoms in a chemical reaction
Ball-and-Stick Models
If you have ever used a molymod kit in school, you would have an understanding of what this ball and stick model is. Simply, balls (representing atoms) on the end of sticks (which describe bonds). This is simply one example of how we may model compounds in chemical reactions.
This video goes demonstrates the conservation of atoms (all atoms in a reaction will be conserved) with a similar model called the space-filling model, basically a molymod model without the sticks.
