Looking at Periodicity
This post will introduce the third topic of Prelim Chemistry “introduction to periodicity”, whilst also exploring states of matter at room temperature.
Topic: Periodicity
- Demonstrate, explain and predict the relationships in the observable trends in the physical and chemical properties of elements in periods and groups in the periodic table, including but not limited to:
- State of matter at room temperature
What is Periodicity?
Periodicity can be simply thought of as the patterns of properties across the periodic table. Recall that the columns of the periodic table are called groups and the rows are called periods.
States of Matter
This video will introduce the concept of states of matter which is the phase (liquid, solid, gas) that an element is found in.
This next video explores trends in the states of matter of elements in the periodic table.
Extension – The Fourth State of Matter
You now know the 3 main states but there is actually 1 more state that is not covered in the senior Chemistry course and that is plasma. This video is a supplementary material that will introduce you to plasma.
