What is Matter and its Different Forms?
This post will introduce the basics of matter, their properties and explain homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures for Prelim Chemistry.
Topic: Properties of Matter
- Explore homogeneous mixtures and heterogeneous mixtures through practical investigations:
- Using separation techniques based on physical properties
- Calculating percentage composition by weight of component elements and/or compounds
Matter
Everything is made up of matter, it can take the form of pure substances such as elements and compounds or it can be a mixture of one or more pure substances. First, to get you familiar with matter, this video will introduce elements, compounds, and mixtures.
Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixtures
The previous video briefly covered homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures. A homogeneous mixture is simply a mixture where everything is evenly distributed while as a heterogeneous mixture does not have everything evenly distributed. This video explores heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures in greater depth.
Here is a video to show you how solutions, suspensions, and colloids may look and behave.
