Electric Potential Energy

Interactions between charged particles can be very interesting, there are a number of different factors that affect how particles will behave. Here we will learn about deriving and analyse the interaction between charged particles and uniform electric fields in the following forms:

  • Electric potential energy

Here is an equation that will be useful in this section:

F = qE
  • F is the force
  • q is the charge
  • E is the electric field strength

Electric potential energy comes from the form:

U = k \frac{q }{r}
  • q1 is the first charge
  • k is Boltzmann’s constant: 1.38064852 × 10-23
  • r is the radial distance
