Defining and Categorising Random Variables

What is a random variable?

In this post, we will focus on defining and categorising random variables, as a part of the Prelim Maths Advanced course under the topic Statistical Analysis and sub-part Discrete Probability Distributions. We learn that a random variable describes some aspect in a population from which samples can be drawn and find the difference between a discrete random variable and a continuous random variable.

The following two videos introduce what random variables are in probability and statistics, and what discrete and continuous random variables are.

Part 1: Random variables

Part 2: Discrete and continuous random variables
