Behaviour of Standing Waves on Strings and Pipes

What is the behaviour of standing waves on strings and pipes?

In this post, we investigate and model the behaviour of standing waves on strings and/or in pipes to relate quantitatively the fundamental and harmonic frequencies of the waves that are produced to the physical characteristics (eg length, mass, tension, wave velocity) of the medium, as a part of the Prelim Physics course under the module Waves and Thermodynamics and sub-part Sound Waves.

The following three videos cover the behaviour of standing waves on strings and pipes, and how they can be described.

Part 1: Standing waves on strings

Part 2: Standing waves on open tubes

Part 3: Equations for strings and pipes
