Acceleration in an Electric Field

Interactions between charged particles can be very interesting, there are a number of different factors that affect how particles will behave. Here we will learn about deriving and analyse the interaction between charged particles and uniform electric fields in the following forms:

  • The electric field between parallel charged plates
  • Acceleration of charged particles by the electric field
  • Work is done on the charge

Here is an equation that will be useful in this section:

F = qE
  • F is the force
  • q is the charge
  • E is the electric field strength

Also recall, the force formula:

F = ma
  • m is mass
  • a is acceleration
  • F is the force

By equating these two formulae we can find the acceleration of a charged particle in an electric field.
