HSC English – How to Master Essay Writing

for the HSC 

Struggle with writing sophisticated essays for English?

In this HSC English Holiday Workshop, we’re going to help you master Essay Writing for the new HSC English Syllabus! In this 3 hour workshop we’re going to help you: 

  • Write a Band 6 HSC English Essay for Year 12
  • Craft a compelling thesis statement
  • Identify key ideas to explore in your essay

Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus: Brooklyn is our Head of English at Art of Smart Education and has a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature) (Honours) from Sydney University. She has extensive English teaching experience, supporting over 100+ students through the HSC via both classes and 1 on 1 support. She is the co-host of the online TV Show, The HSC English Literature Program which features in-depth analysis on HSC English Prescribed Texts, and is a new HSC English Syllabus Expert.

Hills Campus: Brianna is an experienced Senior Coach currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) majoring in English at Macquarie University. She has a deep passion for all things English, reading, writing and attending slam-poetry events in her spare time. Brianna has already supported a large amount of senior students through their academic journey! She looks forward to answering her student’s most burning questions in this upcoming workshop and helping them develop top-notch abilities.

Online: Jessica is a Senior Coach who has engaged and supported more senior students across English than she can count. In addition to teaching weekly English classes, she even creates and designs our Art of Smart English resources! This means she has a far more comprehensive understanding of the English syllabus as compared to your typical tutors. She is studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English at Macquarie University. Jessica loves English and aspires to share her passion by becoming a High School English teacher.

HSC English – Mastering Discursive and

Persuasive Writing for the HSC [Module C] 

Struggle with persuasive and discursive writing??

In this HSC English Holiday Workshop, we’re going to help you master discursive and persuasive writing for the new HSC English Syllabus and Module C! In this 3 hour workshop during the school holidays we’re going to show you:

  • What sort of examples you need to include within your responses
  • How to structure a Band 6 discursive and persuasive piece
  • How to take a deep dive into key Module C texts which use the persuasive and discursive forms
  • How to incorporate a Module C stimulus into your responses
  • How to include themes from other modules into your response
  • How to write a reflection for a discursive or persuasive piece.

Due to the nature of the questions in the new HSC syllabus, learning and memorising a discursive or persuasive writing piece will not work. This workshop takes a skills-based approach which provides students with the tools they need to respond to any writing stimulus.

HSC Standard Mathematics – Stats and

Financial Math

In this Year 12 Standard Mathematics Workshop, we’re going to help you master stats and financial math from your second term of Standard Maths and propel you into understanding the key concepts required to ace Term 3 content!

Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus: Natasha is a senior coach who has helped a number of students in their journey. She was a finalist in 2020 for our MVP Award after countless students and parents expressed their delight at her support! A pro at Standard Maths, Natasha will be able to help students grow their confidence and ultimately identify those knowledge gaps and build upon these weak-points to ensure that marks are maximised come assignment or exam time. Within her workshops, she’ll encourage co-learning and group facilitation of ideas so as to bring out the best in one another.

Hills Campus: Clara is a well-beloved and talented maths tutor. She was even voted by parents and students as our 2020 Customer’s Choice for our annual coach awards! So you know she’s got a lot of good references. She’s an HSC Mathematics expert and has tutored a large number of students for the subject. Whether it’s matching difficult concepts with real-life applications or bringing a more fun perspective to theory and content, Clara knows how to get the best out of her students in an academic environment.

Online: Emily is an amazing Senior Coach and mathematics expert currently studying a Bachelor of Advanced Computing / Bachelor of Science at the University of Sydney. She graduated high school with an ATAR of 99.3, placing her within the top 0.7% of the state! She utilises her extensive experience teaching Maths and her tertiary knowledge to help students approach problems in a way that suits their individual learning style. Through this workshop, she aims to target students pain points to help them progress effectively into 2021!

HSC 2U Mathematics – Differential Calculus

Struggled with understanding the Year 12 content from Term 2? Want to come back to 2U Mathematics in Term 3 of Year 12 stronger than ever?

In this 3 hour workshop during the school holidays we’re going to help you master the key components from Term 2 and kickstart you into the Term 3 Year 12 2U Course:

Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus: Kitty is an experienced senior coach who has tutored numerous Mathematics students and graduated with an ATAR of 98.7. She’s also an HSC expert. Having supported so many Year 12’s, Kitty understands the stress and anxiety of their predicament and has an in-depth knowledge of Advanced Mathematics course content and problem areas. She loves participation and helps make students feel comfortable as she believes that they are most receptive to learning when they have the right mindset.

Hills Campus: Vaishnavi is a Senior Coach and experienced teacher who has supported a large number of students through their HSC journey. Having tutored so many Year 12 students for Advanced Mathematics, she empathises with their unique experience and has an in-depth understanding of the content they usually struggle with. Throughout this workshop, she aims to use this knowledge to help students tackle the most difficult parts of their course and propel them into the new term refreshed and revitalised for Mathematics.

Online: Tiana is a Senior Advanced Mathematics Coach and a seriously experienced coach and mentor. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Pharmacology at the University of New South Wales where she continues to extend her problem solving skill and maths knowledge. She has over 2 years of teaching under her belt and has successfully guided many students through acing Advanced Maths and the HSC with amazing feedback from parents!

HSC 3U Maths – Vectors and Integration

In this Year 12 3U Maths workshop, we’re going to help you master what you’ve learnt so far, while also kickstarting you into 2021 content so you can hit the ground confident and ahead in Term 3 of Year 12!

  • Review and strengthen your knowledge of vectors
  • Master antiderivatives and the trapezoidal rule

Why is it important to master this now?
Mastering your understanding of key calculus concepts is vital to ensure you are able to comfortably progress with the Extension 1 math course. This will allow you to easily gain 10% of the marks in your assessment tasks. Statistics is a new topic introduced into the syllabus and takes up a significant amount of the syllabus, therefore, it is important that you get ahead and get your head around these concepts early.

Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus and Online: Mairead is a senior AOS coach and an extremely skilled mathematician. She graduated with an ATAR of 99.85, placing in the top 0.15% of the state and even coming 1st in NSW for some subjects! Mairead was also Dux of her school and through extensive tutoring experience, has become an expert at teaching assessment preparation and complex problem solving skills for 3U Mathematics.

Hills Campus: Joshua brings over 4 years of teaching and mentoring experience to the table. He’s a self-proclaimed mathematics nerd and has supported so many Year 12 students throughout the years that he’s lost count. The James Ruse graduate studies Actuarial Studies and Finance at University, so he tries to bring his tertiary knowledge to the table wherever he believes it can aid students in their studies. Joshua is looking forward to helping his 3U Maths students fill the gaps in their knowledge and tackle the new term head-on.

HSC Chemistry – Titrations & Calculations

In this Year 12 Chemistry Workshop, we’re going to help you master key challenging areas from the second term of HSC Chem and while also kickstarting you into Term 3 2021 content!

In this 3 hour workshop during the school holidays, we’ll help you:

  • Learn how to master titration calculations, including back titrations with limiting reagents.
  • Apply this knowledge to harder HSC style questions with in-class practice.
  • Learn the essentials for Module 7: Organic Chemistry so that you can hit the ground running next term.

Titrations are considered one of the hardest topics in Module 6. Learning how to lay out the steps and master the different forms of titrations will help you greatly with nailing that Band 6 in your exams.

Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus and Online: Adrian is a qualified high school teacher, who has a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Chemistry at the University of Sydney. Adrian was awarded the University Medal in both Physics and Chemistry at Sydney University, for coming 1st in the university. He has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Queensland where he was awarded the Dean’s Commendation for Academic Excellence. Adrian is Head of Sciences at Art of Smart, and is very passionate about teaching and would like to see all students reach their full potential. Adrian has 5 years teaching experience supporting students across Chemistry, Physics and Maths, both in leading classes in schools and at our Hornsby Campus, as well as 1 on 1.

Hills Campus: Jessica is a senior coach studying education at university who knows all of the tips and tricks you need to ace Chemistry. She’s a dedicated teacher with extensive experience working with Chemistry students. Jessica loves getting to know her students and adjusting her approaches to ensure they come out of her workshop ready to smash it! When it comes to teaching Chemistry, she likes to integrate real-life examples and applications to effectively explain complex concepts.


HSC Physics – Electromagnetism

In this Year 12 Physics Workshop, we’re going to help you master key challenging areas of what you’ve already learnt in Term 2 and kickstart you into the Year 12 HSC Physics syllabus for Term 3!

In this 3 hour workshop during the school holidays, we will help you:

  • Review and strengthen your knowledge of particle trajectories in magnetic and electrical fields
  • Master Faraday and Lenz’s law
  • Kickstart yourself into understanding Maxwell’s hypothesis and Spectral Lines so that you’re ready for next term!
Why is it important to master this now?
The next topic (in Module 7 – the nature of light) is literally called “Electromagnetic Spectrum”. This means you’ll be hitting the ground running next term if you’ve cleaned up all your questions from electromagnetism!

Workshop Teacher

When explaining a difficult concept, Lucas likes to use real-life, relatable examples so that his students can digest information easier and look at it from a new perspective!

Hornsby Campus: Ava is a senior coach who loves helping students succeed. She works to make learning Biology as easy and fun as possible through clear communication and answers to all of your worries! Having tutored a wide-range of students with differing skill levels in the subject, she has an in-depth content knowledge and knows how to help students build the appropriate study skills for the subject. Hills Campus: Mehlum is an experienced and qualified tutor with over 3 years of Biology tutoring experience. She’s also supported numerous Year 11’s over the course of her education career and understands the unique problems and content they face. Additionally, she’s currently studying a Bachelor of Forensic Science at the University of Technology, so she’s able to bring her tertiary scientific knowledge into her lessons for her student’s benefit. Mehlum is a passionate teacher who focuses on building up student’s weak areas so they are confident to take on any assessment and ace the new term!

Online: Angela is a senior coach who was voted our All-Rounder last year for her amazing work and feedback! She is studying a combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney and graduated from Hornsby Girls High School with an ATAR of 99.95. Hornsby Campus and Online: Ryan is our resident HSC Economics new syllabus expert! He is currently studying a Bachelor of Applied Finance and a Bachelor of Economics. Overall, Ryan has two years of experience teaching HSC Economics and has taught both Economics and Business Studies classes at the Art of Smart campus, supporting over 50+ students to navigate the challenges of HSC!

Hills Campus: Anish is a Senior Coach who brings extensive tutoring and mentoring experience, having already supported a plethora of students in their academic journey! He is currently studying a combined Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of New South Wales and previously attained a staggering ATAR of 99.05. Anish will help you ace Economics by using charts to explain complex concepts and acronyms to help you remember important content. Hills Campus: Brianna is an experienced Senior Coach currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) majoring in English at Macquarie University. She has a deep passion for all things English, reading, writing and attending slam-poetry events in her spare time. Hornsby Campus: Emily is an amazing Senior Coach and mathematics expert currently studying a Bachelor of Advanced Computing / Bachelor of Science at the University of Sydney. She graduated high school with an ATAR of 99.3, placing her within the top 0.7% of the state! She utilises her extensive experience teaching Maths and her tertiary knowledge to help students approach problems in a way that suits their individual learning style. Through this workshop, she aims to target students pain points to help them progress effectively into 2021!

Hills Campus: Jessica is a senior coach studying education at university who knows all of the tips and tricks you need to ace Standard Maths. She’s a qualified teacher with extensive experience working with students. Jessica loves getting to know her students and adjusting her approaches to ensure they come out of her workshop ready to smash it! When it comes to teaching Standard Maths she likes to integrate real-life examples and applications to effectively explain complex concepts.

Online: Natasha is a senior coach who has helped a number of students in their journey. She was a finalist in 2020 for our MVP Award after countless students and parents expressed their delight at her support! Hornsby Campus: Tiana is a Senior Advanced Mathematics Coach and a seriously experienced coach and mentor. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Pharmacology at the University of New South Wales where she continues to extend her problem solving skill and maths knowledge. She has over 2 years of teaching under her belt and has successfully guided many students through acing Advanced Maths and the HSC with amazing feedback from parents!

Hills Campus: Joshua brings over 4 years of teaching and mentoring experience to the table. He’s a self-proclaimed mathematics nerd and has supported so many Year 12 students throughout the years that he’s lost count. The James Ruse graduate studies Actuarial Studies and Finance at University, so he tries to bring his tertiary knowledge to the table wherever he believes it can aid students in their studies. Joshua is looking forward to helping his Maths students fill the gaps in their knowledge and tackle the new term head-on.

Online: Kitty is an experienced senior coach who has tutored numerous Mathematics students and graduated with an ATAR of 98.7. She’s also an HSC expert. Having supported so many Year 12’s, Kitty understands the stress and anxiety of their predicament and has an in-depth knowledge of Advanced Mathematics course content and problem areas. Hornsby Campus: Mairead is a senior AOS coach and an extremely skilled mathematician. She graduated with an ATAR of 99.85, placing in the top 0.15% of the state and even coming 1st in NSW for some subjects! Mairead was also Dux of her school and through extensive tutoring experience, has become an expert at teaching assessment preparation and complex problem solving skills for 3U Mathematics.

Hills Campus: Vaishnavi is a Senior Coach and experienced teacher who has supported a large number of students through their HSC journey. Having tutored so many Year 12 students for Advanced Mathematics, she empathises with their unique experience and has an in-depth understanding of the content they usually struggle with. Throughout this workshop, she aims to use this knowledge to help students tackle the most difficult parts of their course and propel them into the new term refreshed and revitalised for Mathematics.

Online: Tanisha is a senior AOS coach who is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of New South Wales. With an ATAR of 99, she has always been a Maths fanatic. Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus: Adrian is a qualified high school teacher, who has a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Chemistry at the University of Sydney. Adrian was awarded the University Medal in both Physics and Chemistry at Sydney University, for coming 1st in the university. He has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Queensland where he was awarded the Dean’s Commendation for Academic Excellence. Adrian is Head of Sciences at Art of Smart, and is very passionate about teaching and would like to see all students reach their full potential. Adrian has 5 years teaching experience supporting students across Chemistry, Physics and Maths, both in leading classes in schools and at our Hornsby Campus, as well as 1 on 1.

Hills Campus and Online: Jessica is a senior coach studying education at university who knows all of the tips and tricks you need to ace Chemistry. She’s a dedicated teacher with extensive experience working with Chemistry students. Jessica loves getting to know her students and adjusting her approaches to ensure they come out of her workshop ready to smash it! When it comes to teaching Chemistry, she likes to integrate real-life examples and applications to effectively explain complex concepts.


Prelim Physics – Kinematics

In this Year 11 Physics Workshop, we’re going to help you master key challenging areas from Term 1 and get a headstart on Term 2 of the Year 11 Physics syllabus!

In this 2.5 hour workshop during the school holidays, our Head of Science, Adrian will help you:

  • Revise for Kinematics including 1d, 2d and relative motion so you’re ready to kick-ass in the HSC!
  • Give you a kickstart into Free Body Diagrams so that you’re for next terms content.

Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus and Online: Sean is a Senior Coach studying a Bachelor of Science (Aeronautical and Maths) at the University of Sydney. As you can see, he has a passion for science and physics and brings his tertiary knowledge into the classroom to boost his students’ understanding. He has extensive experience tutoring students in the subject and is happy to answer any questions you may have about course content or study techniques. To make sure students get the most out of his workshops, he is more than willing to adapt to their individual learning needs. All you have to do is ask.

Hills Campus: Lucas is a senior coach who is currently studying a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences at Macquarie University. As a result, he brings his tertiary scientific knowledge into classes to help boost his student’s understanding. Covering both Maths and Science, he is well-versed in explaining difficult concepts and content in addition to helping students with their homework and assignments. When explaining a difficult concept, Lucas likes to use real-life, relatable examples so that his students can digest information easier and look at it from a new perspective!


Prelim Biology – Evolutions and Adaptations

Hornsby Campus: Angela is a senior coach who was voted our All-Rounder last year for her amazing work and feedback! She is studying a combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney and graduated from Hornsby Girls High School with an ATAR of 99.95. With a passion for learning and teaching, Angela is currently the class teacher for Year 12 Biology at our Hornsby campus and is keen to share her extensive knowledge with students!

Hills Campus: Mehlum is an experienced and qualified tutor with over 3 years of Biology tutoring experience. She’s also supported numerous Year 11’s over the course of her education career and understands the unique problems and content they face. Additionally, she’s currently studying a Bachelor of Forensic Science at the University of Technology, so she’s able to bring her tertiary scientific knowledge into her lessons for her student’s benefit. Mehlum is a passionate teacher who focuses on building up student’s weak areas so they are confident to take on any assessment and ace the new term!

Online: Ava is a senior coach who loves helping students succeed. She works to make learning Biology as easy and fun as possible through clear communication and answers to all of your worries! Having tutored a wide-range of students with differing skill levels in the subject, she has an in-depth content knowledge and knows how to help students build the appropriate study skills for the subject. Workshop Teacher

Hornsby Campus and Online: Ryan is our resident HSC Economics new syllabus expert! He is currently studying a Bachelor of Applied Finance and a Bachelor of Economics. Overall, Ryan has two years of experience teaching HSC Economics and has taught both Economics and Business Studies classes at the Art of Smart campus, supporting over 50+ students to navigate the challenges of HSC!

Hills Campus: Anish is a Senior Coach who brings extensive tutoring and mentoring experience, having already supported a plethora of students in their academic journey! He is currently studying a combined Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of New South Wales and previously attained a staggering ATAR of 99.05. Anish will help you ace Economics by using charts to explain complex concepts and acronyms to help you remember important content. As an Eco expert, he’s also happy to answer any of your tough questions, so go ahead!
